P2-Describe why different network standards and protocols
are necessary
TCP/IP
The transmission control protocol and internet protocol are two very important
protocols without this the internet wouldn’t function because it they have big jobs
which are to move the packets from one network to another and the TCP verifying
the data traveling between the host and clients computers however because they
both work together they are much better at what they do and is a reliable delivery for
your data. Furthermore TCP is very important, because it’s able to establish
connection and destination before it allows the packet to be sent; this means that the
packet reach the correct destination because of TCP making sure that the end
machine actual receives packet. Another good thing about TCP/IP is that is has the
ability to detect errors and verify the packets because when the packets are being
passed through the nodes a series of electronic handshakes and acknowledgments,
For example because this protocol was developed U.S. Department of Defence to
connect a number of different computer networks designed by different vendors into
one so organisations like the Army, navy, Air force and military all use this protocol
because its stable in case of network failure and also secure way of communicating.
However it is also widely used in information technology systems at universities,
government agencies and other organisations such as BM, AT&T and DEC have
adopted and use TCP/IP
AppleTalk
AppleTalk is a very important suite a protocols for Apple devices otherwise these
devices wont function properly and you wouldn’t be able to use file transfer, mail
service, printer sharing in these devices. Usually AppleTalk is a local interface built
into the apple hardware so it’s also hard for you to replace it. Some of the protocols
included in the DDP (Datagram Delivery protocol) which is important for delivery and
routing service for higher layer protocol, AEP (AppleTalk echo Protocol) which
provides an echo service to AppleTalk hosts, ATP (AppleTalk Transaction Protocol)
as this provides reliable delivery service for transaction-oriented operations, NBP
(Name Binding Protocol) which ) manages the use of names on AppleTalk networks,
ZIP (Zone Information Protocol) managing the relationship between network
numbers and zone names, ASP (AppleTalk Session Protocol) manages sessions for
higher layer protocols such as ASP, PAP (Printer Access Protocol) which manages
the virtual connection to printers and other servers, ADSP (AppleTalk Data Stream
Protocol) providing provides a data channel for the hosts and finally AFP (AppleTalk
Filing Protocol) is the file sharing protocol of the AppleTalk architecture. Again
without all these protocols apple devices might not be able to communicate with
other hardware.
For example with AppleTalk implemented in the Mac will allow it to communicate
with the local area network just like a normal device, this means other devices using
a different protocol can communicate with the Mac properly because the AppleTalk
sets up a good relationship between the client and host. Furthermore because its
