I will be suggesting ways of improving motivation in ASDA while justifying my suggestions.

Communication in ASDA can improve motivation, employees will able to know what is going on and work
with other people which is what Mayo believes will increase the output of work. Communication will
allow people not to be left out and managers will be able to talk with their employees and find out if
anything is wrong because there could be a reason as to why they are not doing their work properly and
communicating with the employee and motivating them may improve their work rate and motivate
them. Communication can be improve by having regular meetings and team work and this will give
employees insight, work with other people which they will be able to gain confidence.

As ASDA does not do performance related pay this can be introduced; this will motivate employees to
work harder as it shows their hard work is recognised , gives them confidence in terms knowing that
they can do their job well. Also when employees are being appreciated and paid for their hard work it
will motivate other employees to do better so they can also be paid. Also paying employees for their
hard work shows that the businesses appreciate their employees and this will motivate employees to
work harder to increase the profit of the business so the performance related pay can continue. This
motivational technique is what Taylor believes will motivate employees as he believes money is what
makes employees work to the best of their ability. However introducing this technique may make
employees arrogant and they may feel the need not to work as hard and work rate may go lower within
the business and profit will be loss.

As ASDA do not have a free cafeteria for employees they can introduce this because this will avoid
employees going out to get lunch and spending money, gives employees energy to be able to do their
job better and it shows ASDA care for their employees health which will motivate employees as they are
satisfied and not spending any money on lunch. Maslow believed an employee’s physiological need ,
needs to be met as it is important because it includes water and food; once these are met employees
will be more motivated. However introducing this incentive may make employees rush their job so they
can go and get lunch in the cafeteria and they may also be lazy after having lunch in the cafeteria since
they are not paying they may take more food which can make them tired which will lower productivity
with their work.

Helping employees set and achieve personal goals this will increase motivation as they will be trying to
do their best to achieve these goals, for example if an employee wanted to learn new skills their
manager can then put them in a different working position such as self-stacker to till worker and this can
give them confidence and self-esteem that they can also do that job if they try and they also learn a new
skill while trying a different role. This will allow an employee to work harder and be motivated at their
current job role in order to be promoted to another job role. This relates to Vroom because he believe
that an employee will work harder if they believe the outcome will be better and an employee setting
goals and the manager motivating them will make an employee believe the outcome will be better if
they work harder.

Teamwork will improve motivation because when one is working as a group they do not have to do the
tasks by themselves which means they will be motivated to achieve the goal and it also gives one
