I will be explaining why human resource planning is important in ASDA and why human resource
planning is needed to ensure ASDA has employees with the correct skills to help them to achieve their
purpose.

Human resources planning is important to ASDA because it allows them to decide easily who they want
to recruit by looking at the skills of the person. Also they can view the skills of the employees within the
business and decide if they want to recruit new people with better skills in order to help achieve the
aims and objectives of the business and they can also decide what type of skills is needed in each
department and how many staff in order for tasks to be completed to an high standard quickly. Human
resource planning involves ensuring the staff within the business is sufficient and qualified and
identifying the current and future needs of the human resources in order for ASDA to achieve their goals.
Human resource planning includes internal and external procedures such as identifying the
organisational needs which is want the business wants to do or change such as targeting new markets or
changing technology within the business, skill requirements which is assessing the skills of the workforce
in order to identify the skills and qualifications of the current employees, government policy which is the
government policies that may affect the amount employees available as there’s a certain time when
people can leave education and there a changes to the way students are educated and changing the
nature of work such as changing in technology employees will have to learn to adapt and cope with the
changes in order for the business to continue to run. If human resources planning is done properly
employees can be trained to their full potential which will benefit the Organisation as their employees
will have many skills which can be used within the Organisation; doing new job while having the skills
needed for it which will motivate them to do well and try their best such as a till worker having the skills
do IT work in ASDA while trained will motivate them as it is a promotion and higher step to where they
were before. Also human resource planning allows the business to identify if the skills the employees
have are not enough and what they can do to sort that out such as training and this can improve the
skills of staff and productivity will be increase in the workplace and tasks will be done quicker.

As ASDA has closed many of their stores human resource planning could be the reason for this because
as technology has increase ASDA now uses self-checkout however they also use online shopping which
customers use mainly as they do not have to come into the store to do shopping which may be easier for
customers as the store may be far for them or they rather have their shopping coming to them; ASDA
may have closed the stores because the stores are not making enough profit and not many customers
are coming in to shop. Human resource planning allows the business to have staff available incase
employees leave and ensures the business will continue to run correctly even if people leave for example
if a till worker leaves ASDA and someone from the customer service department is trained to do the job
correctly they can take that persons place until new staff is recruited and the business will run correctly
and work will still be done. Also if someone does leave instead of ASDA having to recruit outside the
business because of skills audit they can use someone within the business for a job such as till work
while the person has the skills and they will save money from training and interviewing.

Human resources planning also allows a business to know how they can keep their employees and
appreciate them because with skills transferability it is simple for an employee to transfer from ASDA to
Tesco if they are not happy in ASDA and they will be able to do the same job in Tesco because they have
