Unit 16 - Human Resources Management

Describe the internal and external factors to be considered
when planning the human resources requirements of an
organisation.
Introduction
In task 1 , i am going to describe the internal and external factors that are required for
Human Resource Planning British Airways organisation.Furthermore i would explain why
HR planning is important for British Airways.

Human Resources planning
HR planning involves looking at the current workforce skills , motivation techniques and
comparing them with future needs in an organisation in order to get right number of
employees with the right skills in the right place at the right time. In order to get this they
recruit, dismiss, appraise and train the new people.

External factors
External factors are the outdoor influences that impact a business in developing and running
it smoothly. These factors can also impact the business to complete its strategic goals and
objectives. In fact, external factors are very important for British Airways as it makes the
company who is it today.
The external factors might include:

● Competition- Competition is an external factor that will limit an organization's
ability to recruit better talent and retain it. Also competition is the measure of other
top companies that sell similar products in the same industry. In fact, this is seen as
an advantage for customers as the prices drop quickly for example in British Airways
in every month the are flight reduction for a short period of 3 hours however other
companies don’t have these services they can’t afford this. As a result, the
competition is a disadvantage for many companies. British Airways have competitors
as Easyjet, Ryanair and many others.

● Social change – In social change the Workforce Demographics is a part of it which
includes the retirement of the old generations and the exchange where the new
generation enters the workforce .So that the human resources department must look
for ways to attract this new set of candidates. They must hire in a different way and
offer different types of compensation packages that work for this younger generation.
At the same time, they must offer a work environment conducive to how this
generation works. In fact, British Airways are always opened to new generation as
they believe young people has the ability to adapt faster to work and also they can
bring in new ideas.

Another point is that recently in March 2017, French air traffic controllers (ATCs)
started a five-day strike that affected BA flights to and from the UK, France, Spain,
Switzerland and Italy. Many British Airways flights were either cancelled or delayed
forcing the company to use larger aircraft where possible to help its customers reach
their destination
