Case study

Maria is a wealthy businesswoman travelling to a UK seaside destination from
Dublin to attend an Event. Maria arrived by plane at the nearest airport on the
Monday afternoon, with the event taking place on the Wednesday at a local
venue between 9am-5pm. The whole of the Wednesday has been catered for.
This means that Maria has Monday evening, the whole of Tuesday and the whole
of Thursday to experience the Travel and Tourism sector within the UK. Maria’s
return flight is on Friday of that week. Maria has never visited the UK before and
is keen to experience as much as possible during her stay.

For my case study I have decided that Maria will be flying into London Gatwick
airport which is the closest airport to Brighton where she is visiting and will stay
at The Grand Brighton, a 4-star luxury hotel. The event takes places on
Wednesday and therefore Maria will have 3 days to explore nearby destinations.
When she arrives on Monday, I have decided to book her onto a ‘sail into the
sunset excursion’ which will include going
out on a yacht and having a few evening
drinks with her friends. I have decided to
choose this for the first day as it is relaxing
and will give her an amazing view of
Brighton. On Tuesday Maria will have the
whole day free and I have decided on this
day Maria will visit London, she will get
here via Train where she will sit in first
class and in London she will see some
popular landmarks such as London eye and
the tower of London, as well as some
shopping in oxford street, I have decided
to choose London as Maria hasn’t got any experience within the UK tourism
sector and visiting London will ensure she gets valuable experience due to it
being the capital city and this will be booked by a travel agent. Finally, on Friday
she will go out with her friends in Brighton to a local café and visit the pier before
her flight back to Dublin in the late afternoon.

In conclusion if Maria’s visit to the UK was successful and she leaves satisfied
this will help popularise the destination. Having a good visit will encourage her to
come back and also recommend the destination to her friends and family which
is a positive effect for the UK as it creates a good reputation and attracts more
tourists and therefore more money for the economy.
