Introduction

To calculate the average there are 3 different ways to calculate it. The different statistical
procedures are; the mean, the medium and the mode. All have different ways to
calculate the average, but you end up having the same average. For this survey I did I
can be helpful to use of the 3 procedures to calculate an average. You can see what the
majority said and what their opinions were; if the majority was positive or negative about
something.

Task 4a (P5 first part)

The statistical procedures are divided into different ways to find out the average. The
first one is the mean: the arithmetic mean is the most commonly used way of calculating
the average. With this method you have to add up all the given numbers and divide it by
the total number by the number of participants. That is the way how you get an average
with the mean method. Example: the numbers are;

6, 11, 7

Add the numbers: 6 + 11 + 7 = 24

Divide by how many numbers (there are 3 numbers); 24: 3 = 8

The Mean is 8

The second method is the median method. This is another way to calculate an average.
With this method you simply take the middle number in a set of numbers. If the total set
of numbers is an even number there is no middle number, if this is the case you have to
choose to middle numbers. If the total set of numbers is uneven you can just pick the
middle number. Example: the numbers are;

53, 55, 56, 56, 58, 58, 59, 59, 60, 61, 61, 62, 62, 62, 64, 65, 65, 67, 68, 68, 70

Median = 61
