P3: explain the travel factors that can affect travel to long haul destinations. Travel factors include:
• Time zones and length of flight –business employee have a lot of travelling to do when they work
for Business Company. They will need to travel to many countries and hence they need to get used
to time zones. A flight which take longer than 6 hours is a long haul destination. A lot of people get
jet lag and dehydrated when they are on a long haul flight. Sometimes the business employees
might want to take an overnight stay on the airport or in a hotel so that they feel fresh for their
upcoming meetings.
• Seasonality and Extreme climatic conditions e.g. monsoons, hurricanes-When companies send
their employees on overseas meetings they send them to different parts of the world and hence the
season may vary to which country they are going to. This affects the company in a negative way and
also in a positive way since they season might not be good during the time that they are travelling in.
for example business employees from the UK might go to Australia during the winter since it is
summer there. Sometime it could be hard for a meeting to take place since there could be
hurricanes and heavy rains.
• Entry requirements e.g. visas, vaccination certificates and Travel restrictions e.g. international
conflicts, foreign and commonwealth office (FCO) advice- since the business employees travel to
many destinations they might have entry requirement when visiting another continent. In some
countries the business employees might need to take a vaccination in order to get in the country,
they will also need to have proof that they took the vaccination or a proof from the company. Also
the business employees need to have the right paperwork of themselves and also of the company
that they are working for.
• Safety e.g. crime, unrest- when travelling abroad for an important meeting the business employees
will have a lot of important paperwork of the company and they need to make sure that they keep it
safe at all times as possible. The company can check the FCO website before sending their
employees to another country. They business employees would be advised not to carry any
important documents with them. Also they are advised to have important meeting when there is
any kind of political unrest in the countries that they will be travelling to since there would be many
attacks happening in that country.
• Health issues e.g. prevalence of disease, HIV, pandemics- when the business employee goes to
another country they are advised to take vaccinations because they would not be able to catch any
kind of flu from the specific country that they are going to. Also when they are on a long haul flight
they might get dizzy and feel uneasy and hence are advised to carry some kind of medication with
them during any emergency cases that could take place. Due to safety problems the business
employees should also not drink any tap water since there is a lot of bacteria in that and they would
not get sick during their important meetings.
• Social situations e.g. poverty, exploitation- since the business employee stay in 5 star hotel when
they come for business purpose, they are advised to encourage the locals by buying local good and
also staying with them since the locals could be facing poverty and by doing this they could help the
