Lecture 1 (Methods of study, Passive and Active Vision, Streams of processing)
This module examines the differences between the 'classic' passive view of vision and a newer approach - Active Vision. It looks at the differences between the two, as well as examining cortical and subcortical structures involved and streams of processing. The notes are very detailed, consisting of information from the seminars and elsewhere. This lecture contains information on: - Passive vision - Methods of studying vision - Psychophysics - Physiology - Computer science - Reasons for dominance of passive vision - Problems with passive vision approach - Vision for action - sensorimotor integration - Streams of processing - Cortical and subcortical pathways - Two cortical visual pathways - Lesions - Ventral stream - Dorsal stream and visual control of action - Active vision basics - Anatomy of the eye
