Describe the difference between census and sample.

The difference between census and sample is the number of people you ask to
participate with your research and let them answer your questions. When you use
census you have to ask every person in the population, with a sample you only ask a
few people.

Census is a way to gather information from the population; it depends on how much
people live in that specific population. After you gathered all the information you can
record and analyze the outcomes. This type of research is official and counts each and
every person that live in the population; the population could be any region, city, country,
group of people, through which the data can be gathered.

To perform this type of research it requires huge finance, time and labor for gathering
the information. This research method is very useful because you get everybody’s
answers and opinions, you can easily distinguish the male to female, rich people to less
rich people, young to old, etc.

Sample is also a way to gather information but then only from a fraction of the
population, so a selected group that represents some of the larger group. This research
method is used where it is not possible to ask all the people of the population, because
of the amount of people inside the population.

The outcome of the research should cover people’s opinions of the population. The
answers of the selected representative group need to indicate the entire population’s
opinions in overall.

Explain why census research is not possible in this case.

For this case I had to research if it would be relevant to invest in a business concept for
Pringles to add a one color image or text on every chip. To research if it was worth the
investment I had to write research proposal and carry out the research. Time was limited
and it is never possible for me to ask the whole population of the country what their
opinions are on my objectives I would have asked them to answer.

A census means that you have to ask every person in the population, The Netherlands
has over 17 million habitants. For me it is not possible to ask each person of the
population. There are simply too many people to ask within this time period I have to
come with the outcome.
